ISLAMABAD - The rare show of unanimity among the parliamentary political parties except Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) in the recently held joint session of parliament will no more be witnessed in the upcoming National Assembly session, as opposition parties are all set to give a tough time to the PML-N government.
The opposition parties, including the PPP and MQM though currently are engaged in war of words on the issue of establishment of new provinces in the country, yet separately set to lock horns with the government on different matters.
The beleaguered government will face tough situation from opposition parties on its tall claims for controlling drone strikes, as recent attacks of unmanned vehicles of the United States in North Waziristan Agency, where army operation Zarb-e-Azab is going on, has claimed lives of over eight persons.
The government, which enjoyed unprecedented support of opposition parties during the joint session, will face strong criticism from opposition parties on increased electricity tariff that panicked consumers in last month (September).
PPP's lawmakers, including Naveed Qamar, Shazia Marri, Syed Ghulam Mustafa and others have also submitted an adjournment motion in the National Assembly Secretariat to discuss the exorbitant increase of 62 per cent in electricity tariff in the parliament.
The recent tussle between PPP and MQM could further intensify in the upcoming NA session as the latter is all set to raise voice on new units in the country, which has already opposed by the former at all forums.
The Muttahida lawmakers are also flexing muscles to criticise the government on the issue of ongoing operation in Karachi, as earlier MQM party had raised the issue on the floor of the house.
"The matters of sit-ins by PTI and PAT will also be raised from both sides of the aisle, as government side is expected to share figure of loss incurred so far due to this long protest," said parliamentary sources. They said the treasury benches lawmakers are also planning to discuss situation of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa especially absence of KP chief minister from his province for a long time. Sources said the government would also take house into confidence about the losses suffered by the country due to recent floods. Opposition parties will also demand to know about the government future strategy to control floods.
The PTI's lawmakers resignation issue might also came under debate in the upcoming session.
Sources said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif would share details of his recent United States' visit where he attended the United Nations General Assembly meeting and strongly raised the issue of Kashmir. They said that the upcoming session will continue for two weeks and debate on presidential address might also conclude in this session.
