Wave of street crimes hits Rawalpindi

Rawalpindi - A gang of armed dacoits snatched cash, mobile phones and gold ornaments from a lady and her son at gunpoint within the limits of police station Saddar Bairooni, sources informed yesterday.
Police launched investigation into the daylight dacoity after receiving complaint from victims with no arrest or recovery so far, sources said. According to sources, a young boy namely Omais was going to market along with his mother in Sadiq Town area on Adiala Road when four dacoits intercepted them in a street. The dacoits deprived them of Rs 24,000, 2 mobile phones and gold ornaments weighing 4 tolas.
A police officer confirmed the development and said that efforts are underway to arrest the robbers.
In another incident, two dacoits tried to snatch a motorcycle from two citizens and shot and injured one of them upon showing resistance on Indus Road, the area of police station Civil Line.
According to sources, two citizens namely Raheel Ahmed and Muhammas Nawaz were going on Honda 125 (RIK-9948) when two armed culprits stopped them at gun point and tried to snatch the motorcycle. However, one of the culprits opened fire at the bike riders upon showing resistance. As a result Muhammad Nawaz sustained bullet injury into leg. The police managed to arrest one of the dacoits while the other fled from the crime scene, sources said.
Separately, two other armed dacoits tried to snatch cash from a British citizen of Pakistani origin namely Malik Asghar Awan outside a private bank in Lalkurti area but they failed as Awan showed resistance. The dacoits managed to escape from the scene, they said.
