ISLAMABAD - The Islamabad Capital Territory Administration has launched a grand crackdown against the profiteers in the wake of upcoming month of Ramazan. The ICT Administration has decided to take stern action against the profiteers and hoarders to curb the profiteering tendency before the advent of Ramazan. According to details, Assistant Commissioner (Industrial Area) Asim Ayub conducted surprise price checking at the weekly bazaar, H-9 near Peshawar More on Sunday and imposed heavy fines amounting Rs5600 on 12 profiteers for over-charging and not displaying the rate list of food items at the stalls. The Assistant Commissioner checked quality of food items and imposed fines on stall holders selling sub-standard food items. He issued on the spot warnings to profiteers to ensure display of rate list of food items and also ensure quality of items failing which their stalls will be cancelled. Asim Ayub also checked the security and parking arrangements in the weekly bazaar and directed the police officials to be more vigilant and ensure the smooth parking of vehicles in the area. The Assistant Commissioner, who is also Secretary District Price Control Committee, informed that the ICT Administration has started strict monitoring of prices of food items on daily basis to ensure the availability of food items at the control rate during the month of Ramazan. He informed that Deputy Commissioner Amer Ali Ahmed has also convened a meeting of Islamabad District Price Control Committee on August 17 to ensure the sale of essential commodities at control rate during Ramazan. Besides this, the ICTA also plans to open 35 fair price shops and sasta bazaars in the urban and rural areas for providing the food items to the consumers at the subsidized rates.
