ISLAMABAD - Former President Gen (Retd) Pervaz Musharraf should appear before the court on January 16, as summoned by special court.
“Former President Asif Ali Zardari and civilian leaders including former PM Yousuf Raza Gilani and Raja Pervaiz Ashraf have been attending courts while General Musharraf is avoiding appearance which is not good for the rule of law,” said JUI-F spokesman in a statement issued from JUI-F office. He said that Musharraf is ill and if doctors advise and court allows, he can proceed abroad for treatment, though he should appear before the court.
With reference to Egypt’s example, JUI-F spokesperson Achakzai said, “Egypt’s ailing President Hosni MubaraK appeared in court on a hospital stretcher, why can not Musharaf.”
He said, “We should help end the impression that some people are superior than others.” He urged Musharraf’s team that no matter what are the charges or their demerits, court appearance should not be construed as insult to ex-dictator, rather his appearance will enhance his image as someone who respects courts and rule of law.
