RAWALPINDI-Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) Rawalpindi No 2 Monday sent three accused involved in the murder of a retired army general to central Jail Adiala on 12-day judicial remand. According to the details, ATC judge Sakhi Muhammad Kahot remanded the accused Ashfaq Ahmed a resident of Okara, Major (R) Haroon Ashiq resident of AJK and Muhammad Nawaz Khan a resident of Peshawar to jail for12 days on the request of Koral Police SHO who said they needed to complete their investigation. The police submitted before the court that the accused were being interrogated for their role in kidnap for ransom case registered with police on February 24, 2009 and they confessed their involvement in the murder of the retired general Ameer Faisal Alvi during the investigations. The assassinated general Alvi, who commanded the Special Services Group (SSG) during the first major assault on militants in South Waziristan in 2004, was killed along with his driver in the federal capital on November 19 last year when he was on his way to his private office. The general had spearheaded several prominent commando operations. He acquired fame during a series of security operations in Angoor Adda, Wana and other parts of South Waziristan, in which a large number of Arabs, Uzbeks, Chechens, Afghans and local Taliban were killed. Meanwhile an additional district and sessions judge awarded life imprisonment to a man for killing his wife three years ago in Waris Khan. ASJ Mustafa Tanveer Sifwat convicted Sohail Butt for killing his wife Hina Awan in 2006 and awarded him life term besides Rs 100,000 fine and in case of default he would have to undergo six months jail term. According to police details Butt married Hina of his choice but killed her over domestic differences.
