Rawalpindi - Sunni Tehrik and Shabab-e-Islami staged rallies in different parts of the city yesterday against death sentence of Malik Mumtaz Hussain Qadri, a convict in murder of former Governor Punjab Salman Taseer.
The protestors were holding placards and banners mentioning slogans in favour of Malik Mumtaz Hussain Qadri and against the government.
According to details, Sunni Tehrik carried out a protest rally on Murree Road against the death sentence of Malik Mumtaz Qadri. Led by JUP (Norani) President Abu Alkhair Muhammad Zubair, the rally was participated by Mufti Liaquat Ali, Tahir Iqba Chishti, Allama Atta ul Rehman Dhanial, Syed Safdar Shah Gillani, Allama Haider Alvi, Noor ul Mustafa Noorani, Qari Kamran Akhter Siddiqui, Allama Ashfaq Sabri and Allama Abdul Latif Qadri besides a large numbers of other activists.
Addressing the protesters, Abu Alkhair Muhammad Zubair said that no legislation could be made against the Quran and Sunnah in the country. He said that every child of Ummah was ready to sacrifice his life to protect the sanctity of Hazrat Muhammad (SAW). The other speakers said that they would support Qadri on every platform and would not move back even an inch from their stance. They said that the government should shift the case of Qadri to the Federal Shariat Court for justice.
On the other hand, Shabab-e-Islami activists also held rally in Muslim Town in support of Mumtaz Qadri. Addressing the participants, Mufti Muhammad Hanif Qureshi said that the caravan of Namos-e-Risalat (SAW) would keep moving till Day of Judgment. Tight security arrangements were made by police to protest the rallies and to maintain law and order situation.
