ISLAMABAD - The recent series of monsoon rains has completely exposed the poor quality of a road recently completed with the cost of Rs 150 million.
The road constructed from Rehmanabad to Holy Family Hospital (5th Road) has started damaging from various spots right from Rehmanabad to Holy Family Hospital but the authorities concerned have completely ignored the serious violations of road construction rules by the contractor.
Rainwater is clearly seen accumulating at various damage spots of the 5th Road. A new entrant to the area will definitely think that the road has been constructed years ago, said a resident, Ashfaq Ahmed.
The median of the road presents ugly look as the contractor had affixed tough tiles on it instead of growing grass and flowers on it, he said.
Residents demanded Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to take notice of negligence and punish those involved in corruption.
Meanwhile, due to pleasant weather in the twin cities, a large number of picnickers and fun lovers enthralled popular recreational spots of the federal capital on Sunday.
The intermittent rains compelled people to come out and enjoy the beauty of nature at Margalla Hills, Rawal Dam, parks and other recreational spots.
Fun lovers of the twin cities spent their weekend at popular picnic spots as huge rush of families and youngsters was witnessed at various areas.
Rains and pleasant weather served the fun lovers as a treat of enjoying glimpses of nature and enjoy the weekend with friends and family gatherings.
From last few years, the trend of arranging family and friend parties at open-air places of parks and hillsides have become popular among the nature lovers.
“The rains have created a perfect atmosphere for Bar BQ and gave the fun lovers an opportunity of enjoying chilly weather and food with smoked aroma of burnt coals,” said a housewife.
Weather is considered very important during picnics, and families and group of youngsters remained busy enjoying the weekend at roadside picnic spots of Margalla Hills, Lakeview Park and Chattar Park.
The pleasant weather brought people out of their homes in the twin cities and rush was witnessed at almost every park and recreational spots including National Monument, Daman-e-Koh, Fatima Jinnah Park, Lake View Park and premises of Shakarparian.
