Nadra official held for issuing CNICs to foreigners

ISLAMABAD - Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) yesterday arrested an assistant director of the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) for allegedly issuing illegal birth certificates and national identity cards to foreigners. Ministry of Interior in a statement said: "An Assistant director of Nadra has been arrested for allegedly issuing illegal Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) to aliens following the directions of Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan".
The ministry said that FIA was conducting raids to arrest a police official allegedly involved in this fraud case.
An officer of Nadra said that FIA had arrested Qamar Nadeem, former assistant director of Nadra Headquarters. He said that Chairman Nadra Usman Mubin some weeks back had removed him from service after he was found guilty of issuing fake child registration certificates (CRC) and CNICs to aliens. "Nadra Vigilance Department had pointed out the involvement of Qamar Nadeem in issuance of illegal cards to aliens, then he was put under close watch and after the authorities found evidence against him, the report was presented before the chairman," he said, adding the officer was removed from service after an inquiry found him guilty.
