521 professional beggars held in three months




ISLAMABAD - In a bid to put an end to the menace of begging in the federal capital, Islamabad Police during current year arrested a total of 768 beggars and also initiated legal process by registering FIRs against professional alms seekers and their handlers.
According a press note issued from office of SSP Islamabad Capital territory police, Islamabad police launched special campaign to curb this curse on the directions of IGP Islamabad Bani Amin Khan and SSP Islamabad Yaseen Farooq. Following these directions, special squads called `Mujahid Sqauds’ were also constituted to assist the police which mainly worked in jurisdictions of City Zone, Saddar Zone and, Industrial Zone and Rural Area.
During the last three months, Saddar Zone of Islamabad police arrested 521 beggars followed by 144 by City Zone, Industrial area 58 and Rural area 45. Islamabad police shifted the children and deserving persons involved in begging to the Edhi Centers and Protection Centers for their proper upbringing while the professional palm-seekers were shifted to jail.
Beggary is an organized crime as gangs pick up children from remote areas after paying some amount to their poor parents and take them to different cities on the pretext of providing respectable jobs to them.
IGP Islamabad Bani Amin Khan has said that this social evil would be curbed and those backing the professional beggars would be dealt with an iron hand. He said that needy children and women are shifted to the various centers after verification so that they could be made responsible citizens.
The IGP said this campaign against the professional alm-seekers will remain continue and strict action will be taken against those who force children and women to adopt the ugly business.
