ISLAMABAD - Indifference, mismanagement, negligence of Islamabad Zoo House administration has dimmed all the beauty and attraction of one of the most illustrious Islamabad Zoo.
Majority of animals are gradually dying due to mysterious diseases, while one of the major attractions of zoo, the elephant has been chained due to lack of any guard to look after the animal.
The discrimination of chaining the hapless beast has caused swellings and infectious wounds in elephant’s feet.
Plans have been reported to be afoot to bring more animals to the zoo, while the zoo administration has cited paucity of funds as one of the main hurdles in rehabilitation of zoo back to its original condition.
INP adds: The Wild Life Park of Capital Development Authority (CDA), Marghazar Zoo is expected to get six new animals-three lions and three cheetahs-soon in near future.
Zoo administration has finalised cages for the new wild animals, which is likely to attract a good number of visitors.
Project Director, Marghazar Zoo, Abdul Rasheed Khan confirmed development in this connection and said that arrival of these animals in the zoo may take weeks or even months but cages for animals have been finalised.
Sources said that CDA Environment Member, Dr Kazim Naiz was soon expected get a lion from a party as a gift apart from buying a lion and a lioness, and three cheetah worth million of rupees would soon be brought in Marghazar Zoo.
It should be mentioned here that zoo is the centre of attraction not only for residents of Islamabad but also for tourists who visit the federal capital but due to inadequate facilities in the Marghazaar Zoo animals have been dieing for various reasons.
In addition, a quality zoo will add to the recreational facilities in the capital city and would provide an entertainment avenue for visitors.
