ISLAMABAD - Large number of elected representatives of Pakistan, 329, have not filed their income tax returns despite passing two deadlines in one week period, as the government has announced to issue tax directory of the lawmakers on February 15.
Federal Board of Revenue (FBR)’s officials said that 843 parliamentarians out of 1172 have filed their income tax returns till Monday, which was revised last day for filing returns.
“FBR has once again decided to further extend the deadline till February 14”, said an official of the tax department while talking to The Nation on Monday. He added that FBR has set earlier deadline of February 7 for filing returns of the income tax of the lawmakers, which later was revised to February 10.
Later, the deadline was extended till February 14. The FBR would issue the tax directory of the lawmakers of the country on February 15.
Sources said that Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal, JUIF chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman, former Interior Minister Senator Rehman Malik, Deputy Chairman Senate Sabir Baloch, PTI MNA Arif Alvi and others were among, those did not file income tax returns yet.
FBR Senior Member for Inland Revenue Service (who is also Spokesperson) Shahid Hussain Asad other day told The Nation, “FBR will impose fine on those parliamentarians who have failed to file their income tax returns, as it does to the other common people,”.

Lahore reporter adds: The ruling PML-N has appeared at the top in the list of non-filer lawmakers belonging to Punjab Assembly.
