Increase in gas price flayed

ISLAMABAD (Online) - The decision of ORGA for 30 percent increase in the gas prices has created a wave of anxiety in the business community and the general public at large, stated President Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry Muhammad Ijaz Abbasi here on Tuesday. Unprecedented hike in the gas price will leave a negative impact on the business activities and economy, whereas life of a common man would become more difficult, he said. Abbasi showed great concern on the enormous raise and said that all stakeholders should have been consulted before taking any decision by OGRA. He added that OGRA should have not allowed tremendous increase in the gas prices considering the financial position of the people, who are already, victim of high inflation. He said that huge increase in the gas price for commercial and domestic consumers would leave bad impact on the economy, which is already under tremendous pressure.  President stated that government should intervene and must disallow such a massive increase in the gas prices. Ijaz Abbasi said that demand of the gas is increasing day by day and in the years to come gas requirements will be much higher because use of CNG is being greatly promoted in the country. He said that for economic growth it is extremely important to create energy resources because business activities are badly hampered due to shortage of energy. He said that government should take timely decisions for the availability of energy resources and implement it without any further delay. He said that with the announcement for the increase in gas prices, cement manufacturers have also raised price of cement at the rate of Rs.10/- per bag, which would increase the cost of construction. He added increase in the gas prices would badly affect the budget of common people, as the prices of a number of products will shoot up. President stated that there is lack of mismanagement and poor planning that result in increase of gas price at massive scale. He said that the business community condemns the increase and demands the government to intervene to disallow massive raise in the gas price.
