Islamabad - Speaker National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, will lead a delegation of parliamentarians to attend the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) scheduled in Geneva, Switzerland, from March 16 to 20.
The IPU will discuss the role of parliaments in making the world free of nuclear weapon, efforts towards risk resilient development taking into consideration demographic trends and natural constraints, besides the role of parliaments in protecting the rights of children, in particular unaccompanied migrant children, and in preventing their exploitation in situations of war and conflict.
The Speaker National Assembly will lead the parliamentary delegation comprising MNAs Arifa Khalid Pervaiz, Syed Naveed Qamar, Shafqat Mehmood, Maj (Retd) Tahir Iqbal, Khalid Maqbool, and Raza Hayat Harraj, Senators Mian Raza Rabbani, Farooq H Naek, Baz Muhammad Khan, Secretary National Assembly Karamat Hussain Niazi, and Secretary Senate Amjad Pervaiz.
The members of the delegation will participate in the assembly of the IPU and its related meetings. They will also meet their counterparts from other countries on sidelines of the assembly and exchange views and experiences.
Envoy lauds Pak support for quake-hit Japan
Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan, Hiroshi Inomata, has expressed his gratitude to the government and the people of Pakistan on behalf of Japanese people for their valuable support to the Japanese people in the aftermath of Great East Japan Earthquake which had devastated Japan on the fateful day of March 11, 2011.
In his message issued here on Monday on the third anniversary of Great East Japan Earthquake, the Ambassador said, “Three years ago today, Japan was hit by triple disaster, devastating earthquake with the magnitude 9.0, gigantic Tsunami and a nuclear power station accident. People in the damaged area have lost their families, friends, houses, cars, jobs and things they loved. But Japanese people have never lost hope, since we have been encouraged and supported by friends in all over the world including Pakistan.
The affected area of Japan is still in the process of recovery but thanks to your help as well as understanding it has steadily revitalized, Japan ambassador said, adding, “We will never forget about your compassion and friendship.”
Pakistan, Estonia discuss ways to boost economic co-op
Vaino Reinart, undersecretary for economic and development cooperation affairs and special representative for Pakistan of Estonia, Monday called on additional secretary (Europe) to discuss strengthening of bilateral relations and economic cooperation.
Views were also exchanged on global and regional issues of common interest. It was agreed that the next round of annual political consultations would be held in Islamabad during this fall.
