Day light robberies increasing in Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI: While robbers were free in the garrison city for dacoities at night but with police force taking no interest to free the city from criminals, day light robberies are increasing with each passing day.

According to reports, a gang of robbers on motorcycles raided at a retail shop in Khayban-e-Sir Syed, Sector-II and forced the owner and the sales man at gunpoint to hand over the cash.

Though the shop was in a busy street and a number of people were also sitting in the adjacent park at around 5 PM, but the daredevil bike riders were least worried and after looting the cash, drove away while displaying their arms. The Rescue team which was informed reached late and so were the policemen at the nearby Pirwadhai police station.

Local people said this was not the first incident of its kind in Khayban-e-Sir Syed. They said there are different gangs of robbers who are active not only at night but they are not scared to carry out their crimes during day time.

Due to rising incidents of robberies and lack of security, the shopkeepers in Khayban-e-Sir Syed and adjacent Bangash colony have started closing their businesses after 8 PM.

People have appealed the DIG and SSP Rawalpindi to mobilize the police force and ensure that they start their patrol after the sunset rather than moving in their mobiles after midnight just to show that they were on duty.
