Petition seeking disqualification of interior minister Rehman Malik has been filed in Supreme Court (SC). The petition has been filed by Moulvi Iqbal Haider. The petitioner has taken the plea high court has dismissed the application against the conviction of Rehman Malik. The sentences of all the NRO beneficiaries stand restored in the light of SC verdict on NRO and no stay order has been issued against the implementation of apex court decision, therefore, all the sentence terms in respect of Rehman Malik stand restored. The petitioner has made federation, chief election commission, chairman senate and Rehman Malik respondents. Moulvi Iqbal Haider has taken the ground NAB court had convicted and sentenced Rehman Malik for 3 years in prison in January, 2007 while FIA registered FIR against Rehman Malik in 1996. Lahore High Court (LHC) has rejected plea filed against his conviction. Under article 62(2) and 63 Rehman Malik is convicted, therefore, he is not eligible to work on any public office. The petitioner has prayed the SC to grant his appeal plea with regard to Sindh High Court (SHC) decision against the conviction of Rehman Malik and declare him ineligible as he is convicted by LHC and Accountability Court.
