Aitzaz seeks court order on Swiss letter after Zardari steps down

Former Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Senator Aitzaz Ahsan Thursday said the court should order writing of the Swiss letter the day when President Asif Ali Zardari steps down from his office of presidency.
Talking to media prior to the hearing, the Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani’s counsel in contempt of court case Ahsan said “the issue is not about the corruption; instead, it pertains to nationality, as the respectable countries do not allow any of their citizens to surrender before foreign courts.”
Ahsan said President Asif Ali Zardari is constitutionally elected President and he could not be presented before a Swiss Magistrate for trial.
He said writing a letter to Swiss authorities against the President is not the issue of Asif Ali Zardari in person or corruption but it is matter of dignity of the country.
Aitzaz said “if the issue is sent to the Swiss Magistrate it will set an example for the future President to submit them before foreign authorities for trial which is not acceptable.”
To a question‚ Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan said under Article-10-A of the constitution the Judges who initiate contempt of case against any one cannot be part of the trial.
