ISLAMABAD - The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Friday issued notices to secretary interior and director general (DG) Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in a petition of Nawabzada Shahzain Bugti who moved the court for removal of his name from exit control list (ECL).
A single bench of IHC comprising Justice Riaz Ahmad Khan issued the notices after Nawabzada Shahzain Bugti, president of Jamhoori Watan Party (JWP) Balochistan chapter, sought court's directions for removal of his name from the ECL. The IHC bench has directed the respondents to submit their replies in this connection.
In his petition, Bugti argued before the court that he had been facing restrictions in travelling abroad because his name was placed on the ECL. His counsel, Babar Awan Advocate, contended before the court that his client was a grandson of late Nawab Akbar Bugti who was assassinated in 2006. He stated that respondent interior ministry had placed his name on the ECL to restrict his movement in 2010 after he was arrested on December 22, 2010. The counsel further argued that his client was a political figure and false cases were registered against him.
It is pertinent to mention here that Shahzain Bugti was arrested by the paramilitary troops of the Frontier Corps at the Buleli checkpoint near Quetta and later his name was placed on ECL.
The petitioner prayed to the court to issue directions for removal of his name from the ECL. After issuing the notices, the court deferred the hearing in this matter with date in office.
