Rawalpindi - An anti terrorism court yesterday issued arrest warrants for a former deputy director of Federal Investigation Agency for not appearing before the court to record his statement as prosecution witness despite summoning him in the murder case of former prime minister late Benazir Bhutto.
The court adjourned hearing in high profile case till April 16, 2016.
According to details, Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) Rawalpindi Number 1 Special Judge Muhammad Ayub Marth took up BB assassination case. During the proceeding, the judge expressed his displeasure over the prosecution for not producing a witness Ghulam Asghar Jatoi, former deputy director FIA to record his statement.
The court issued bailable arrest warrants for the witness while directing police to produce the former officer before the court on next date of hearing.
Talking to The Nation, FIA Special Public Prosecutor Chaudhry Azhar Ali confirmed the move. He said that the court was formally informed that the former officer of FIA had shifted to his native village Punu Aqil after retirement from his service. He said that the officer had requested the prosecutor to take time from the court as he would appear on the next date of hearing. Chaudhry Azhar said that Ghulam Asghar Jatoi had arrested the two accused former CPO Syed Saud Aziz and former SP Khurram Shehzad and obtained their physical remand from a court of law besides collecting other evidences.
