Rawalpindi - On the first day of anti-polio drive, a large number of children were administered polio drops across the district yesterday.
A three-day polio campaign was kicked off by Provincial Minister for Labour and Manpower Raja Ashfaq Sarwar by vaccinating polio to a child at Rawalpindi Arts Council (RAC). The polio teams targeted bus terminals, airport and all the families entering the city and administered polio drops to children below the age of five, informed District Health Communication Support Officer Bushra Ajmal. She said that EDO Health Dr Arshad Sabir and DO Health Dr Muhammad Raffique were personally observing the polio teams. She said that district administration had also made special arrangement for those children to administer polio drops who either were left and their parents refused to cooperate with the polio teams.
On the other hand, District Coordination Officer (DCO) Sajid Zafar Dall while talking to The Nation expressed his satisfaction over the ongoing polio campaign. He informed that a total of 47951 children have been administered polio vaccine in tehsils of Kotli, Taxila and Kallar Syedan. He said that, however, some 40 refusal cases surfaced at Taxila but the government would handle the situation amicably. He said that all the teams have also been provided adequate security of police.
