CDA on toes to make ‘green Islamabad drive’ successful

ISLAMABAD/RAWALPINDI - To make ‘Green Islamabad Campaign’ a success, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has sought collaboration of educational institutions and other concerned departments of the federal capital.
In this regard, the CDA has sent invitations to the administrations of government and private schools, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), NGOs, government departments and other private institutions for participation in the Green Islamabad Campaign.
The inaugural ceremony of Spring Tree Plantation Drive would be held today (Thursday) here at Sector D-12. Chairman CDA Maroof Afzal will formally inaugurate the Spring Tree Plantation Drive - 2015 by planting a sapling during the colourful event.
On this occasion officers and officials of CDA, general public, students of different schools, traders, NGOs and employees of other government and private departments would plant saplings.  
Tree plantation campaign starts at PMAS-AAUR
The spring tree plantation campaign started at Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) on Wednesday with an aim to create awareness among students about the importance of trees and to highlight the significance of green and healthy environment.
Vice-Chancellor PMAS-AAUR Prof Dr Rai Niaz Ahmad was the chief guest on this occasion who formally inaugurated the campaign by planting a sapling at the main campus.
The ceremony was attended by deans/directors, registrar, teaching/administrative staff and students of the university.
While addressing on the occasion, the VC said that a greener environment is vital for a healthy nation.  He said that plantation of trees would purify the environment, which would help reduce the pollution.
He urged the participants to take active part in the campaign. He advised every student to plant two plant species and take care of them during their period of stay at the university.
It was very important to keep a cleaner and greener campus for the generations to come, Prof Niaz added.
He stressed upon the need for holding such campaigns on a regular basis and appreciated the efforts of the organisers in promoting the green culture on the campus.
After planting the sapling, participants prayed for the solidarity of the country and progress of the university.
