Mushahid files motion in Senate against Metro Bus

ISLAMABAD- Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed, secretary general Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid), has filed an adjournment motion in Senate on Metro Bus Project (MBP) dubbing it in sheer violation of section 12 of environment protection act.
It was demanded in the motion that business of the Senate may be suspended to discuss an urgent matter of public importance, which would leave adverse effects on the federal capital. It was further stated that MBP has been launched in sheer violation of section 12 of the environment protection act, 1997. Senator Mushahid, who represents the federal capital in the upper house, said that the beauty, environment and green belt of the unique city of Islamabad are all threatened by the manner in which the MBP is being launched in violation of all laws, rules and regulations. The act clearly states that an environment impact assessment (EIA) has to be submitted and approved by the Pakistan Environment Protection Agency (PEPA), prior to launching of any project. Additionally, probably for the first time in the history of the federal capital, a project for Islamabad is being executed by the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA), and not by the CDA, which is the relevant agency for this purpose, the senator concluded.
