Islamabad - Senator Sherry Rehman of Pakistan Peoples Party has approached the Islamabad High Court and sought a restraining order against Capital Development Authority, as the CDA has asked her through a notice to shift Jinnah Institute Trust office from the F-6 residential area.
The said notification has been issued to her in lieu with the Supreme Court of Pakistan’s directives to halt business activities in the residential areas of the federal capital.
President of Jinnah Institute Sherry Rehman adopted before the IHC that JI was formed on August 11, 2010 and it is a non-profitable institute and is not involved in any kind of business activities.
She informed the court that JI organises seminars and workshops on security and defence issues participated by diplomats, government functionaries and politicians. The JI board of directors includes foreigners, retired army personals and people belonging to different spheres of life.
She stated in the petition that relocating JI office to some commercial area involved hazards of being attacked by the terrorist groups.
Therefore, she prayed to the court that since JI is purely non-commercial entity, so it may be allowed to keep working in the area or may be granted a reasonable time to relocate it as it has been granted to the schools in the same area. Sherry has further requested the court to stop CDA from harassing JI staff to vacate the building.
