ISLAMABAD - Four new wild type1 polio cases were reported in a single day from FATA at the National Institute of Health (NIH) laboratory Friday. This has taken the total cases of the country so for to 43.
Zulqarnain, son of Sahar Gul, 30 months old male child, resident of village Sipah Soorankhel, Tehsil Bara, Khyber Agency received no polio vaccine dose during the last ten months due to security situation. Last dose he was given in September 2012. Polio vaccine has to be administered on frequent intervals till the child becomes 5 years old.
The second victim Afghan, son of Bakhta Gul, 09 months old male child, resident of area Land, Tehsil Miran Shah, North Waziristan Agency also did not receive any dose of vaccine. The third patient Ajwa, daughter of Ibrahim, 16 months old female child, resident of area Eidar Khel, Tehsil Mir Ali, North Waziristan Agency, also received zero dose of polio vaccine.
Asmina, daughter of Saidanullah, 12 months old female, resident of area Ali Khel, Tehsil Mir Ali, North Waziristan Agency, also paralysed due to no vaccination.
Some 8,000 children in Khyber Agency and 2,60,000 in North and South Waziristan have not been immunised since last year.
Total 31 cases in 2013 so far from FATA and 14 from NWA have been surfaced. In 2012 the country had reported 58 cases. Officials fear this year the country will report more cases than last year that will bring shame internationally to the country.
