Courts resume hearing this week

Judges detention, Ghazi murder cases

Islamabad - The hearing of two important cases including judges’ detention case and Ghazi murder case against former President Pervez Musharraf will be held during the current week starting today (Monday).
The first matter is related to judges’ detention case and its proceedings will be held at special Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Islamabad where former military ruler had submitted an application requesting the court to withdraw his arrest warrants.
Previously, ATC judge Sohail Ikram had conducted the hearing of the case and put off the proceedings after public prosecutor Amir Nadeem Tabish adopted before the court that he had yet to receive the copies of Musharraf’s medical report and his application seeking withdrawal of his arrest warrants. He maintained that he could not argue the case without the copies of said documents.
At this, the ATC judge directed to provide him both the documents and adjourned the hearing till October 16 for further proceedings in this connection.
The second major case is related to double murder case of Ghazi Abdul Rashid and his mother Sahiba Khatoon against Musharraf on the complaint of Ghazi’s son Haroon Rashid.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Pervez-ul-Qadir is conducting the hearing of this double murder case and on the last hearing, he had deferred the hearing of Ghazi murder case against the former military ruler till October 17.
During the hearing, the judge said that he had received the file of this case in the morning and he needed some time for the perusal of the case.
Therefore, he adjourned the case without further proceedings till October 17.
In this particular matter, the Islamabad police had registered a case against Musharraf for his alleged role in the murder of Rashid and his mother during the Lal Masjid military operation.
The federal police filed the case in 2013 after Haroon Rashid, Ghazi’s son, submitted an application with the Aabpara police station for registration of an FIR against the former president.
In the application, Haroon had referred to about 20 pages of the Lal Masjid Commission report, which held the former president responsible for the operation.
