Islamabad - Federal government has approached the Islamabad High Court (IHC), seeking permission for the appointment of an acting chairman Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).
A Division Bench (DB) of IHC comprising Justice Athar Minallah and Justice Aamir Farooq Tuesday conducted the hearing of the review petition moved by the government in this matter.
During the hearing, advocate Babar Sattar, counsel for chairman OGRA Saeed Ahmad Khan, informed the court that Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) has completed its enquiry in this regard on May 8 while his client has also been restored on his position in the light of court’s judgment dated April 13. Therefore, he adopted that there is no logic and reason of filing this review petition by the government.
At this juncture, Additional Attorney General Afnan Karim Kundi said that he has no information regarding completion of enquiry and he moved the review petition on the direction of government. Then, the dual bench directed him to take further directions from the government and inform the court.
After issuing the aforementioned directions, the court deferred the hearing for one week for further proceedings.
In the review petition, the government has adopted that the process of appointment of chairman OGRA is in progress. Therefore, the court may permit the government to appoint an acting chairman of the body.
