Dysfunctional streetlights resented

RAWALPINDI – Dysfunctional streetlights at Double Road have led to rise in road accidents.
Owing to lack of coordination between IESCO and TMA, the streetlights are not working since the last four years. This road is housed by towering cultural, cuisine and sports complexes including Food street, Nawaz Sharif park, Arts Council and Cricket stadium where national and international level matches are played .
This is all due to lack of proper coordination as IESCO had installed high transmission lines without consultation of TMA rendering 72 street lights and poles redundant.
IESCO has set up a grid station herein. The presence of high-tension lines and high poles can lead to any fatal road accident. TMA was not given any opportunity to change the already installed poles and streetlights or to lower their height.
The prevailing situation depicts a gloomy picture, as the streetlights are no more workable due to these high transmission lines.
On the other hand Rawal town administration is demonstrating lack of interest in taking measures to put the clusters of these lights to work.
The citizens demanded immediate steps for making street lights functional to avert any big road accident.
