Islamabad - National University of Modern Languages (NUML) arranged annual Book Fair 2014 to revive the tradition of book reading among the young, particularly students.
The annual book fair was arranged by the NUML office of research, innovations and commercialisation (NORIC) in which a total of thirteen book publishers showcased a wide variety of books on the topics including literature, linguistics, management sciences, engineering, information technology, international relations, mass communication, Islamic studies and economics.
Chairman Pakistan Academy of Letters Sheraz Latif along with Director General NUML Brig (Retd) Azam Jamal inaugurated the book fair.
Speaking on the occasion Sheraz Latif said there was no greater pleasure than reading books in one’s leisure time. The current boost in technology has made it easier for students to get access to the e-books of their interest but the pleasure and the contentment connected with the hard copy of a book was inexplicable.
Gulfam Khan Khalid, manager university industry linkages of NORIC, while talking to this scribe said that the purpose of this book fair was to promote academic and non-academic reading habits among students.
Fatima Hassan Zaidi, a student of BS Mass Communication, said that she dreamt to be a bibliophile, as she knew the love of book was like the love of a mother. “As a mother rears, facilitates, guides and gives identity to her children, a book rears, facilitates, guides and gives you identity. The subject I was studying made it imperative to have extensive reading and knowledge and it is always book that helps me out now and in my future profession,” she said.
The book fair was also visited by a large number of faculty members, students and staff members. The book fair will continue today (Thursday).
