Oil areas residents protest PPL policies

Rawalpindi - A large number of residents of Mohra Janjua, Mastala, Dhoong, Aahdi, Kaneet Khalil and Narali staged a sit-in on Wednesday outside Aahdi Oil Field against the policies of Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) management. The sit-in was staged on the call of Welfare Committee of Mohra Janjua Qatbaal (Gujar Khan) President Kashif Anjum Janjua. The protesters during the sit-in demanded of the government and PPL management to provide them free of cost gas and jobs to the unemployed youth of the area. The protesters chanted slogans against the government and the PPL management.
Addressing the protesters, Kashif Janjua said that the residents of the areas having oil resources have been agitating against the injustice of PPL for many days but no body was taking any notice of the issue. He said that PPL launched development projects in all the areas where natural minerals were discovered but unfortunately the people of all the aforementioned areas were neglected. “We also need schools, carpeted roads, hospitals, colleges, universities and jobs for our children,” he said, adding that the government should pay heed towards the lingering issue.
Sensing the sensitivity of the issue, a heavy contingent of police headed by DSP Gujar Khan rushed to the spot to maintain law and order. Assistant Commissioner Gujar Khan, PML-MNA Raja Javed Ikhlas and MPA Raja Shaukat Aziz Bhatti also accompanied the police party and also held talks with the protesters. The public elected representatives assured the protestors that the government would release Rs 10 million for the provision of gas facility to the residents within next three months.
