Former Chairman Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) Tauqir Sadiq was presented before an anti-terrorism court in Islamabad on Friday.
Tauqir Sadiq was produced in ATC on Friday on completion of his 67 days physical remand. He was taken into court under stringent security measures.
Counsel for Tauqir Sadiq filed two applications in the court on the occasion with regard to allocation of A class in the jail and provision of security to the accused.
NAB on the other side prayed the court to grant judicial remand of the accused. The court ordered for sending Tauqir Sadiq to jail on 14 days judicial remand.
Counsel for Tauqir Sadiq requested the court to grant A class in jail to the accused. The court remarked “ let the accused reach the jail first. Matter of allowing A class in jail will be seen later.
The court ordered the prosecutor NAB to prepare jail warrant to send the accused to jail.
NAB sources said Tauqir Sadiq will be summoned from jail if need be. NAB has made recovery to the tune of Rs 54.08 billion so far directly or indirectly.
As per NAB sources physical remand of the accused can be obtained upto 90 days in accordance with NAB laws. Challan will be presented in the court for sending the accused to jail.
Talking to media men after hearing of the case, counsel for Tauqir Sadiq said Tauqir Sadiq has remained a highly professional lawyer and he was promoted as chairman OGRA in grade-20 , therefore, he should be granted A class in Jail by virtue of his educational qualification and office.
He said there is no substance in claims of corruption being made with reference to Tauqir Sadiq as he does not even own a house and all the claims made on account of recoveries from him run contrary to the facts.
The court sent him to jail on fourteen-day judicial remand. The court also rejected his plea for allowing him A-Class in the jail.
