ASI caught receiving bribe

Rawalpindi - The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) raided at Police Station Kallar Syedan and caught an officer red-handed while receiving bribe from a poor woman to set her son free, who had been arrested in connection with a robbery case, sources informed The Nation yesterday.
A case was registered against the police officer who was identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector Jamshed Hussain and started investigation, sources said.
According to sources, a lady namely Samina Bibi, resident of Dhamali, appeared before ACE Inspector Mumtaz Ahmed Mekan and lodged a complaint that ASI Jamshed Hussain of police station Kallar Syedan had detained her son in a robbery case despite the fact that he (son) was not involved in the case. She added that the police officer was demanding Rs 100,000 as bribe to release her son. She appealed for legal action against the police officer.
Taking action, the ACE Inspector constituted a raiding team and gave dotted currency note worth Rs 10,000 to the lady and asked her to pay the currency note to the said police officer. The raiding team during a raid caught ASI Jamshed Hussain red-handed while receiving bribe from the lady and registered a case against him.  The son of the lady was set free by police, sources said.
Meanwhile, top bosses of Rawalpindi police yesterday visited Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) and held a meeting with business community.
During the meeting, the both sides discussed the security and law and order. The president of chamber presented commendatory certificates and cash prizes to a police party of Morgah police station for arresting two swindlers and recovering Rs 2.6 million which had been swindled from the wife of a businessman/chamber member.
According to details, Regional Police Officer (RPO) Wisal Fakhar Sultan Raja and City Police Officer (CPO) Israr Ahmed Khan Abbasi arrived at RCCI and held meeting with President RCCI Mian Humayun Pervaiz and others. The meeting was also attended by SSP Operations Karamat Ullah Malik.
Speaking on the occasion, RPO Wisal Fakhar said that the prime responsibility of police was to protect the lives and property of public. He added that efforts were being made to curb crime from the region, besides providing security to the businessmen.
