ISLAMABAD - Though PPP-P is planning to vigorously start campaign for upcoming LB polls, the dissidents group which has recently registered its party with the name of PPP (Workers) has decided to give tough time to former ruling clique (PPP-P) by contesting in elections.
The chances of local government elections are grim now and PPP (workers) does not expect that former ruling party (PPP-P) will clinch seats in Punjab and KPK due to certain reasons, said Safdar Abbasi, President PPP (Workers) talking to The Nation.
The PPP (Workers) in a bid to unite the genuine ideological workers of the Pakistan People’s Party, he said, will reach out to all provinces to campaign about upcoming polls. To a question about PPP-P Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari’s efforts for upcoming polls, Abbasi sees Zardari as main reason behind the expected failure in LB polls. Abbasi further said that the PPP-P was currently a leaderless party as Zardari was ineligible to head the party for two years.
“The genuine workers of party are perturbed about the future of party, as decline is evident from May 11 elections results,” he said, adding that they will campaign for their own party (PPP-Workers) in the upcoming elections. He further said that even previously winning candidates of PPP-P are not interested to contest from PPP’s symbol (arrow) due to certain reasons. He said a large number of workers at grassroots level of the party are not satisfied with the party’s working.
It would not be out of place to mention here that a couple of months before the PPP dissident group had decided to launch a countrywide campaign to remove the party’s co-chairman and President Asif Ali Zardari and his ‘favourites’ occupying the PPP-P.
