Unhygienic foodstuff causing diseases

ISLAMABAD - Street venders with their unhygienic foodstuff and cold beverages are causing severe diseases for users.      The street vendors are not only selling unhygienic food but they also wash pots with impure water. It is difficult for food to be kept clean on the street and many people become sick due to the unhygienic food bought from these street vendors. The hospitals, bus stop, government and private offices, and markets are flooded with such vendors carrying foodstuff, TheNation observed in different market of the federal capital. On the other hand, the people have no other choice but to purchase these unhealthy foods from vendors, as they could not afford to purchase it from restaurants. Talking to TheNation, Inam Khan, who was drinking juice at Aabpara market, said, "I know that this glass in which I am drinking juice is not clean but I could not get the cold drinks at shops, as their prices are higher. A woman Amna Bibi said that his son was suffering from food poisoning as he ate Haleem (salted cereal made of wheat, pulses and meat) from a street vendor. She said the authorities concerned do not take notice that what these people were selling in the markets and bus stops.     The vendors were of the view that they use clean water for washing pots and they are providing clean food the customers. Rasheed Mahmood, a beverage seller, said that they have fewer profit margins, as they could not afford to purchase disposable glass for the customers. "We use clean water to clean the pots and never use to cheat their customers", he added. A doctor Yaseen when contacted for comments said that people should not purchase foods and beverages from street vendors, especially in monsoon season.
