ISLAMABAD - Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) arrested two robbery accused including Amir Masih and his wife Zara Masih and recovered 80 tolas of gold from them.
According to police, Ashfaq Abbasi, resident of I/8 Islamabad, reported to I-9 police station that while he was in the UK gold jewellery approximately 80 tolas was replaced with replica in the locker of his house.
The police registered the case (FIR No 255), dated 29/04/14, and started investigations.
“Police team arrested the accused and recovered gold,” SP Jamil Hashmi confirmed to The Nation on Friday. Briefing about modes operandi of the accused, Hashmi said accused used to steel jewellery items gradually one by one and made replica of all jewellery within a period of six months. “The owner could not realise even on his return that the jewellery lying in the locker was fake.
He could only knew about the robbery when a jeweller told them it was artificial,” Hashmi said. Meanwhile, Sabzi Mandi police arrested two extortionists from its area, a police spokesman said. According to details, a broker Ghulam Farid s/o Muhammad Amin, resident of Rawalpindi, lodged an application with Sabzi Mandi police that unknown extortionists were threatening of killing him and his family members and demanding Rs 300,000 extortion.
He also said that they sent him a letter along with two bullets as a severe threat. On his complaint Sabzi Mandi Police registered a case.
Later a police team traced the telephone call of the extortionists and succeeded to arrest two extortionists identified as Qari Muhammad Shafique and Sanaullah. Further investigation in the matter is under way.
