RAWALPINDI - The top cop of Rawalpindi police on Wednesday sent a letter to inspector general of police Punjab recommending him to ban Phoenix Security Company on its sheer failure to thwart a bank robbery in Rawalpindi, sources told on Wednesday.
Sources added that the IG Punjab would forward the recommendations of Rawalpindi police to Punjab Home Department to get the license of Phoenix Security Company cancelled since two of its security guards have failed in stopping robbers from looting Rs 5.3 million from Meezan Bank Limited at Chuhur Chopal two days ago.
City Police Officer Israr Ahmed Khan Abbasi wrote a letter to IG Punjab Mushtaq Ahmed Sukhera requesting him to approach Punjab Home Department to cancel the license of Phoenix Security Company.
Sources said that CPO clearly mentioned in the letter that bank robbery occurred because of negligence of two security guards who failed in barring robbers.
CPO Israr Ahmed Khan Abbasi, however, when approached, said that he had moved a letter to IG requesting him to put a ban on Phoenix Security Company through Punjab Home Department after its failure in thwarting bank robbery. “The two security guards did not offer any resistance to the gang of robbers. Had the security guards put resistance, the bank robbery would have been averted,” CPO added.
CPO, responding to queries, said that the security around mosques and worships places of Bohra and Ismaili communities have been beefed up following a brutal terrorist attack on a bus in Safoora Goth in Karachi.
He said that he sought the details of vehicles being used to carry people of Bohra and Ismaili communities from chief security officer to hammer out comprehensive security plan to secure them. He added that he ordered SDPOs to convene meetings with representatives of Bohra community and ask them to hire private security guards for their protection.
“The mosques of Bohra community in Cantt and Jamat Khana of Ismaili community at 6th Road are under close police surveillance and extra force has also been deployed to avert any untoward incident,” he said.
He said that police held three accused on suspicion of their alleged involvement in armed attacks on trance genders in the city.
He said that all the police guards protecting the high and mighty in the city have been closed to line in order to cater shortage of police force.
