'Wakhi Cultural Festival'

ISLAMABAD (APP) - Lok Virsa, national institute of folk and traditional heritage is holding here from October 21-25 featuring the living style of people from Gilgit-Baltistan region. The objective of the festival is to explore various facets of Wakhi culture and develop the understanding of the people about the unique characteristics and history of Wakhi culture. This event will pave way for documentation, research and preservation of history, language, arts and crafts of Wakhi people living in Gilgit Baltistan region, said Executive Director Lok Virsa, Khalid Javaid. Around 60 artisans are invited to color the grounds of Lok Virsa with their arts, crafts, dances, food and traditions from birth to death rituals, Khalid Javaid told the agency. The artisan-at-work segment of the festival will be a major attraction for the visitors besides providing market for artisans to sell their dying crafts in artistically designed cultural pavilions. While folkloric performances, folk dance performances, traditional cuisines and other traditional attractions would be the part of festival. Jointly organized by the Ministry of Culture and Gojal Educational and Cultural Association, a seminar on Wakhi Culture and Languages will also held during the festival. The idea behind this festival was to give due importance to the documentation of the Wakhi people and their region to introduce them among the people of Pakistan primarily the young generation, he added.
