Military to stay in Swat for 6 more months: Athar Abbas

Pakistan Army will stay in Swat region for six more months, a military spokesman said. ISPR Spokesman Maj. Gen. Athar Abbas talking to New York Times on phone said the troops were diverted to flood relief operations but the drive against militants in Orakzai and Khyber tribal regions will be stepped up. He said the operation in the areas bordering Afghanistan will be continued. Around 1,47,000 soldiers have been deployed in northwestern areas for anti-militant and anti-terrorist campaign, he told the paper.
