Terrorists are using children for suicide attacks: Rehman Malik

The Chinese government will provide security gadgets worth $ 280 million to Pakistan for capacity building of law enforcement agencies, Interior Minister A. Rehman Malik said here on Monday. Speaking at an award distribution ceremony to martyred and other police officials, he said the Chinese government made this commitment during his recent visit to China, adding that the gadgets include vehicle scanners, mobile scanners and other equipments. He further said that different donors have pledge to give an amount of $ 65 million for the capacity building and improvement in police department. Malik reiterated the government resolve to continue war against terror till the Taliban are flushed out of the country. He said the terrorists are using children for their terrorist activities, adding that a suicide bomber is hired at 5 to 25 lac rupees. The Minister said that weapons and ammunition are being supplied to terrorists from Afghanistan and the government of Pakistan has take up the matter with Afghan President Hamid Karazai. He appreciated the performance of police department especially the Capital police for curbing the incidents of terrorism and in arrest of terrorists. He said the police department is facing shortage of staff and the government has decided to recruit 20,000 in Capital police. He paid tribute to 'Shuhada of suicide attack on Rescue 15 in Islamabad and said that he would request the Prime Minister to bestowed Quaid-e-Azam Police Award upon them. He appreciated the performance of Capital police including Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) for maintaining law and order and traffic in Islamabad. He announced plots in Islamabad for the families of police officials who embarrassed 'Shahadat during last ten years and payment of full salary to their families up to the age of 60. He further said the duty hour of the Capital police will be reduced and they would be given uniform allowance, vehicles for pick and drop and APCs. Earlier, the Minister distributed medals, certificates, and cash prizes among the police officers and officials for their outstanding performance. The police officers and officials who received prizes included: SP Nasar Aftab, SP Sajjid Kiyani, SP Saqib Sultan, ASPs Muntazir Mehdi, Liquat Ali Malik, Farukkah Rashid, DSPs Liquat Hayat Niazi, Ehasanullah, Bashir Ahmed Noon, Inspectors, Ashraf Shah, Abdul Razzaq, Arshad Ali, Muhammad Auqab, Muhammad Baqir, Tahir Hussain, SIs Munir Jaffery, Muhammad Sharif, Shahid Mehmood, Muhammad Yasin, ASIs Nadeem Mughal, Ansar Mehmood, Muhammad Rashid, HCs Raza Ahmed, M. Arif, Fida Hussain, Wajid Ali Shah, Atif, Constables Mehtab Hussain and Noor Ahmed. Speaking on the occasion IGP Islamabad Kalim Imam said that Capital police is committed to protect the life and property of the citizen. He said despite deficiency of staff and resources including transport and accommodation, the Capital police is rendering best performance. He, however, called for more facilities for the police department including provision of modern equipments to enable them to cope with the terrorism. He expressed his thanks to Prime Minister and Interior Minister for giving raise in the salaries of police officials and provision of other facilities.
