Islamabad - A 5-day workshop by Asia Pacific Region on Environmental Education in Scouting started here Monday aiming at enhancing the knowledge, attitude and practices of the scouts toward improvement of environment in the country.
Addressing the opening ceremony Rahila Durani, patron in-chief of Balochistan Boy Scouts Association and member National Council Pakistan Boy Scouts Association, urged the scout leaders to organise practicable programmes for youths with change of time. The scouts of eight countries including Pakistan, Afghanistan, Denmark, Philippine, China, Thailand, Indonesia and India are participating in the event. Rahila Durani also congratulated the PBSA for organising such a successful programme. The theme of the workshop was “Scouts Go Green” aiming at enhancing the knowledge, attitude, and practices of the scouts towards the improvement of environment through environmental education.
The scout leaders from all over the country including Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Pakistan Railway, PIA, FATA, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) were also participating in the workshop. Deputy Workshops Director, Faisal Jamil Shah while addressing the opening ceremony stressed the need for imparting environmental education in all institutions as it was the need of the hour. Regional Director of World Scouts Bureau Jose Rizal Pangilinan also addressed the event and urged the scouts to organise curriculum according to the needs of youth and national priorities. This five-day workshop was being held at global village national headquarters in which solar badge would be introduced on international level and boy scouts would also organize solar curriculum during workshop. It is pertinent to note that selected scouts from all over Pakistan would also have scouting activities and camping during the workshop and modern camping would also be introduced.
