Approver accepts bribing Rs11.1m to Musa Gilani

RAWALPINDI - The accused-turned-approver Tauqeer Ali Khan, front man of Syed Ali Musa Gilani, on Monday stated that he paid Rs 11.1 million to the junior Gilani at his home for helping in getting huge quota of ephedrine.
Appearing before the Court of Narcotics Substance Control (CNSC) Special Judge Arshad Mehmood Tabbasum on Monday to record his statement under section 164, Tauqeer Khan disclosed that he on behalf of Syed Ali Musa Gilani contacted former Secretary Health Khushnood Akhter Lashari to successfully obtain conversion of 6,000-kg ephedrine for local consumption for Islamabad-based Barlax Pharmaceutical Company.He added that Lashari exhorted pressure on former Director General (DG) Health Dr Rasheed Juma Khan and acting DG Health Dr Asad Hafeez to award him quota of 6000-kg ephedrine for local consumption.
In his statement, Khan penned before CNSC court, further added that after obtaining the quota of ephedrine, he (Khan) went to the house of Syed Ali Musa Gilani and paid him Rs 11.1 million to help him (Tauqeer) in awarding illegal quota of controlled chemical.“I was running a private business. Director Danas Pharmaceutical Company Rizwan Ahmed arranged my meeting with Iftikhar Babar Khan, the Director Barlax Pharma Company during which Iftikhar requested me to get permission from health ministry for local consumption of 6000-kg ephedrine since a ban was imposed on the local use of controlled chemical,” Khan mentioned in his statement recorded by CNSC Special Judge Arshad Mehmood Tabbasum. Later the court deferred the hearing till April 19, 2013.
