ISLAMABAD - Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar on Thursday directed Regional Police Officer (RPO) Rawalpindi to hold probe on a complaint regarding the alleged false implication of a youngster in a terrorism case after his family raised hue and cry over his arrest and prolonged illegal detention. Taking suo motu notice on a complaint filed by Rashida Begum, a resident of MohanPura Rawalpindi, the Chief Justice of Pakistan has directed Rawalpindi police to come up before the court on January 27 with the findings of an inquiry into the grievance. Rashida Begum had informed the Chief Justice of Pakistan that her son Aamir Murtaza was frisked away by Rawalpindi police on March 23, 2008 from inside her house in MohanPura. When she raised hue and cry over the arrest of her son and prolonged illegal detention, police implicated Aamir Murtaza in a false and fabricated case registered under terrorism charges, Rashida maintained. Earlier, police had been telling the aggrieved mother that her son was only held for purposes of interrogation. Rashida Begum had asked the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take note of the highhandedness of the local police authorities and ensure justice to her and her son, Aamir. Meanwhile, Chief Justice, Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar also took suo motu notice on a news report that disclosed the existence of many private jails and torture cells of Islamabad Police at Barakahu, Karachi Company and Mera Abadia where suspects were not only detained without being produced before any court of law but also subjected to brutal police torture. About 18 such persons were tortured to death in such jails, the reporter had further revealed. It further stated that many police officers involved in heinous cases were appointed in police stations such as Inspector Malik Tahsin, Police Station Kohsaar, involved in murder case and SIP Abdul Gafoor of Police Station Shahzad Town, involved in a rape case. Chief Justice of Pakistan Mr. Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar has directed IG Islamabad to submit the report in detail on 26- 01- 2009, positively in the Supreme Court.
