FIA removes deputy director on charges of corruption

ISLAMABAD - Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) yesterday removed its Deputy Director Anti-Corruption Gulfam Nasir Warriach on charges of corruption following directions of Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan.
“Following directions of the interior minister, FIA Deputy Director Anti-Corruption Wing Islamabad has been removed from his post as a result of plethora of public complaints against him,” a spokesperson of the Ministry of Interior said in a statement.
The statement said that it was encouraging that public and media was pointing out such elements in government departments. However, it is interesting that neither an inquiry had been initiated against the officer not he had been booked in a case of corruption and official misconduct.
The official sources in FIA insisted that the officer was allegedly the front man of a senior director of FIA and had been facilitating some accused in Employees Old-age Benefit Institute scam.
Gulfam Nasir Warriach is a police officer of the capital police and he had managed to get deputation in FIA some two years ago. However, the interior ministry has not yet taken the decision to repatriate the accused to his parent department after finding allegations of corruption against him.
An official of the Ministry of Interior said that deputy director had been removed on charges of corruption. There were a number of complaints of corruption against him and he had been allegedly found harassing the public to get bribe from them.
Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan in the past has also taken severe action against some FIA officials who were found involved in human trafficking as well as human smuggling. The minister had got booked cases against them.
