Islamabad - Former President Pervez Musharraf yesterday submitted an application before Special Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Islamabad and requested for withdrawing his arrest warrants in judges’ detention case.
ATC Judge Sohail Ikram conducted the hearing of the case and issued notices to federation in the application of Musharraf who approached the court in this connection through his counsel Ilyas Siddiqui Advocate.
After issuing the notices, the court fixed October 1 as next date of hearing for arguments in this regard.
In the application, the counsel contended that the court had issued arrest warrants of his client for not presenting Musharraf’s medical report along with his application seeking exemption from appearance before the court. He added now, Musharraf’s medical report was being submitted. Therefore, the counsel prayed to the court to withdraw Musharraf’s arrest warrants.
On the other hand, a four-member medical board currently providing treatment to Musharraf has advised him to have an operation from abroad.
The medical report submitted in the court stated that unfortunately, the modern and sophisticated equipment required for this operation is not present in the country.
In the medical board, names of two orthopaedic surgeons, one neurologist and one neurosurgeon are included and Musharraf’s medical report was issued with the signs of Dr Sohail Rafi, Dr Nadeem Memon, Dr Imtiaz Hashmi and Dr Tariq Muhammad.
Earlier, the same court had rejected former President Pervez Musharraf’s application seeking exemption from appearance before the court for one day in judges’ detention case.
After turning down Musharraf’s plea, the ATC judge had issued his non-bailable arrest warrants and directed the police to arrest Musharraf and produce him before the court on October 1.
A junior lawyer of Ilyas Siddiqui Advocate who is appearing before the court on behalf of the former president submitted an application and sought exemption for Musharraf’s appearance before the court. He stated that the former president could not attend the hearing due to his ailment whereas he has also security concerns therefore; his client should be permitted one-day exemption.
Public prosecutor Amir Nadeem Tabish opposed the application seeking exemption and contended that the case had been pending before the court for the last one-and-half years. He added that the no progress is being carried out in the case due to constant absence of Musharraf.
After hearing his arguments, the ATC judge dismissed Musharraf’s plea saying that his medical report is not attached with the application and issued non-bailable arrest warrants of Musharraf while directing the police to produce the former president before the court on October 1 after arresting him.
