ISLAMABAD - The Supreme Court on Thursday issued notices to Higher Education Commission (HEC), Punjab Education Board (PEB) and respondents regarding fake degrees of MNA Sheikh Waqas Akram and three MPAs of the Punjab Assembly.
MNA Sheikh Waqas Akram and MPAs Ghulam Nazim-ul-Din Salvi, Mian Muhammad Azam Chaila and Khawaja Muhammad Islam have filed appeals against the Lahore High Court’s order that has maintained quo warranto writ petitions against them. A few voters from Sheikh Waqas and the three Punjab MPAs’ constituencies have filed quo-warranto writ petitions in Lahore High Court against them.
They have challenged the education qualification of the parliamentarians. The high court has maintained the quo warranto petitions. Sheikh Waqas and Ghulam Nazim-ul-Din, Azam Chaila and Khawaja Muhammad Islam have filed appeals in the Supreme Court against the LHC order, praying that only the opposite candidates can challenge election of the winning candidates and not the voters. A two-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaundhry after hearing the stance of the their counsels adjourned the case till 23rd February.
