President for developing comprehensive framework on national security

President Mamnoon Hussain has emphasized the need for developing an effective and comprehensive framework on national security to deal with the challenges being faced by the country."The effective pursuit of national security goals requires developing a comprehensive framework with input from all segments of society" the President emphasised.Addressing a ceremony of certificate distribution amongst the participants of 15th national security workshop at National Defense University in Islamabad on Friday, the President said the strategic framework needs to encompass all the elements of national power.He said it must focus on the complex ways in which national, regional and global factors cast their imprints on the security outlook of the country."Such a strategic framework needs to encompass all the elements of national power, both the tangible as well as intangible, and must also focus on the complex ways in which national, regional and global factors cast their imprints on security outlook of a country" he said.The President pointed out that the national security is a complex and multidimensional matter and it is no longer a domain of a selected few.Therefore all segments of the society require to give their inputs on the issue of national security.Mamnoon Hussain said we are living in inter dependent world in which the concepts and paradigms of national security are being constantly redefined and renegotiated. Thus there is a need to develop a thorough understanding of the implications of this phenomenon in intra and international relations.Appreciating the National Defense University for conducting the workshop on an important subject, the President said these workshops through a process of deliberations and collective reflection help in fostering better perceptions of challenges and problems that we face.The process of mutual interaction and dialogue among the people of diverse backgrounds pave the way for developing consensus on key issues and contribute towards greater national integration and nation building process, he added.In his welcome address, President National Defense University Lieutenant General Javed Iqbal highlighted the objectives of the workshop.He said the focus of the workshop was to develop real understanding of the challenges being faced by the country and an institutionalized approach to convert challenges into opportunities.On the occasion, the President gave away certificates to the participants of the course which included parliamentarians, military and civil officials and members of the civil society.
