7,000 to guard twin cities on Eid

Islamabad/Rawalpindi - Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) police have finalised a comprehensive security plan on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr and also augmented the security at public places, worship places and other important buildings to thwart any untoward incident.
The security plan was reviewed here on Thursday in a meeting presided over by IGP Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan and was attended among others by DIGs, SSPs, SPs and other senior police officials. All police officials have been directed to remain on high alert and fully prepared to avert any untoward situation during Eid days.
According to the security plan, more than 3,500 policemen would patrol various sectors to check possible house burglaries during Eid holidays. The SSP Islamabad has also directed for effective security measures in the city on this occasion. There are 920 mosques and 40 Imambargahs which will be covered by armed guards and policemen during Eid-ul-Fitr prayers.
Policemen would also patrol in various sectors and police in-charges of circles would ensure proper security at the Eid congregations in various locations.
According to this plan, beat systems have been introduced for security at main shopping centres, markets and additional deployment of policemen has been ensured there, especially for Chand Raat (last night before Eid day). The contingents of mobile reserve police and prisoner van movement would be part of security measures at important shopping centres including Super Jinnah, Super Market, F-10 and Aabpra Market.
Policemen have been assigned duties at bus stands, graveyards and railway stations while special deployment will be also made at Faisal Mosque. All SHOs have been directed earlier to conduct security meetings with managers of bus stand as nine bus stands were identified for security duties. Following these meetings, special police pickets have been erected in the vicinity of bus stands and police with the help of volunteers would check the passengers and other suspects there. As per security duties on Eid, the policemen would patrol in various sectors and contingents of Pakistan Rangers and police commandos will assist police in these security duties.
The plan devised following the directions from IGP Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan also includes patrolling strategy in residential sectors and markets. Vehicles of police stations, Falcon and Bravo vehicles, would patrol in their respective areas while additional vehicles have been also provided to each police station for success of patrolling plan.
Police teams have been constituted for patrolling in various urban sectors and rural areas. Keeping in view the rush of visitors at public places, security measures have been also taken at Shakarparian, Daman-e-Koh, Jasmine Garden, Manal, Lake View Park, Chattar Park and Centaurus.
The mobile patrols and squads would also remain present at prominent points during Eid congregations and Chand Raat. Sub divisional police officers and station house officers would be responsible of the security around worship places. They may be provided additional force on their request for the effective patrolling and security at Eid congregations in various sectors. Duty rosters have been prepared by the in-charges of police stations and policemen would patrol in various sectors during day and night timings to check house burglaries and ensure protection to properties during Eid holidays.
The mobile officers and police guard posted at mosques, Imambargahs and public/picnic places will take notice of the beggars hovering around the premises and will take legal action against them.
Special focus is to ensure safety to properties and stop frequent incidents of theft during Eid holidays. As a part of security measures, police pickets would be erected at all important entry and exit points for checking of vehicles.
Meanwhile, Rawalpindi police have finalised foolproof security plan for protecting public on Jumatul Wida, Chaand Raat and congregations of Eid-ul-Fitr in the city.
In this regard, City Police Officer (CPO) Israr Ahmed Khan Abbasi convened meeting in his office on Thursday to improve security arrangements. The meeting was attended by SSP (Operations) Karamat Ullah Malik, SP Potohar Division Muhammad Ateeque Tahir, SP Saddar Circle Dr Sardar Ghias Gull, acting SP Rawal Division Sardar Babar Mumtaz and other SDPOs.
Addressing the meeting, CPO Israr Ahmed Khan Abbasi informed that according to security plan a total of 3,500 well-equipped police officers and cops would shield people in different parts of the city. He added that Nimaz-e-Eid would be held in 875 mosques, 65 Imambargahs and in 63 open places. Elite force commandoes, muhafiz force, horse riders, qaumi razakars and officials of civil defense, would also assist the police he said. Moreover, the patrolling system in all the areas would be improved whereas the SPs, SDPOs and SHOs would patrol in their areas to check and brief the cops guarding Eid prayers.
In a bid to avoid any terror threat, CPO said, the open places for Eid prayers would be cordoned off with barbwires or with tents and the devotees would only be allowed to go in after body search with metal detectors. While, all kind of parking would also be banned near the mosques, imambargahs and open places, he added.
Similarly, the law enforcement agencies would also keep a vigil over beggars, vendors and other suspect elements, he said adding that pickets would be erected in all the entry and exit points to frisk vehicles.
CPO Israr Ahmed Khan Abbasi said that the mosques and imambargahs administrations would not be allowed using loudspeakers except Eid sermons. The resorts and public parks would also remain under police scanner to avoid any untoward incident, he mentioned.
