Effort for youth uplift lauded

ISLAMABAD - Ahmad Al-Hindawi, the UN secretary-general's envoy on youth, called on Sartaj Aziz, adviser to the prime minister on national security and foreign policy, on Monday and discussed plans for youth empowerment in Pakistan. The envoy was accompanied by the UN resident coordinator to Pakistan. He appreciated the ongoing efforts of the incumbent government for economic and social uplift of the youth in Pakistan. The envoy expressed keen desire to work closely with Pakistan both at the federal and provincial levels to develop joint programmes aimed at youth empowerment, notably in the area of skill development.
The advisor briefed the visiting delegation on the government's policies and initiatives to promote education, skill development and growth-driven employment for youth in the country. While proposing the UN to assist Pakistan in setting up skill-development centres at the provincial level in the country, the adviser emphasised that post-2015 UN development agenda should be given due consideration.
