Safe City project to be functional by Oct: Nisar

Islamabad - Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has said that Safe City project would be functional by October of this year to secure the federal capital from entry of criminal and terrorist elements.
During his visit to Command and Control Centre of Safe City Project on Tuesday, the minister said that 1940 cameras would be installed at different locations while 200 personnel would be sent to China for training to control this system.
The former government had announced this project but no practical step was taken to implement it, he said adding that incumbent government has been successful in renewing this project with a Chinese company at previous rates.
The minister said that it was the priority of government to eliminate terrorism and every possible step would be made to ensure protection to the lives and property of the citizens.
He said that Chinese company would look after the project for one year, which would be later run by NADRA (National Database and Registration Authority) in coordination with district management and intelligence agencies.
“Cameras would be installed at every square of Islamabad and special chip will be issued to locally registered vehicles for convenience during journey,” the minister said adding that vehicle coming from other areas would be strictly monitored.
He said that this project would be later extended to Rawalpindi and it would be also introduced to other cities including Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar and Quetta.
Chaudhry Nisar said that time of 2-3 minutes for police response would be ensured in case of any mishap. Quick response force has been established for the capital, he added. The minister directed all concerned authorities to ensure early implementation of this project.
