ISLAMABAD - Continuing his engagements on the sidelines of United Nations Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) Summit, Special Assistant to Prime Minister, Tariq Fatemi, has met with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
According to Foreign Office, Fatemi conveyed the best wishes of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, reiterating his invitation to Prime Minister Abe to visit Pakistan.
Prime Minister Abe warmly greeted him, expressing gratitude for Pakistan participation in the UN Summit and asked him to convey his best wishes to the Prime Minister, said a message received from Tokyo here Monday.
In a detailed discussion with UNDP Chief Helen Clark, Fatemi underlined the importance of the UN activities in Pakistan. He underscored the need for greater assistance for the Temporarily Dislocated Persons in addition to the mainstream development activities.
Clark expressing full understanding of the complex set of challenges, reiterated her strong support for UN efforts in Pakistan. She said that she planned to visit Pakistan later this year. At the ECO working lunch, chaired by Secretary General ECO and the Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey, Numan Kurtulmus, Fatemi underscored the importance of making the ECO more focused, dynamic and relevant given the commonalities of interest and vast regional resources.
The Turkish Deputy Prime Minister greeted him and also reiterated the depth and strength of Pakistan-Turkey bilateral ties.
