RAWALPINDI Tehsil Muncipal Administration (TMA) failed to vacate the encroached public land (street) of B-Block Satellite Town, even after the lapse of 15 days of the issue highlighted by this newspaper. Sources told TheNation in first week of the February that public land (street) in Satellite Towns B-Block near Qari Khushi Muhammad seminary had been occupied by some influential having strong political backing. Residents said since that last seven years street measuring 1,200 square feet had been occupied by influential land mafia. Prominent political persons of the constituencies NA- 55 and 56 were backing these encroachers. Residents of the area told that they filed bundle of complaints during last seven years to Tehsil Muncipal Administration (TMA) and Commissioner Office repeatedly, but the authorities turned deaf ears to listen them. TheNation had contacted the Tehsil Muncipal Officer (TMO) Shahzad Haider, couple of weeks ago who confirmed that the street had been encroached and assured that street would be made operational for public use after the Chelum of Hazarat Imam Hussain (AS). When contacted after the Chelum, Shahzad Haider confirmed that teams under supervision of Tehsil Revenue Officer Aftab Chohan were authorised to remove the encroachments from the street. Manpower and machinery has been allotted to the teams, he added. However, after lapse of 15 days no action has been taken in this regard as yet. After repeated attempts by TheNation, TMO couldnt be contacted. However, Tehsil Regulation Officer Aftab Chohan said, We have requested City Government for machinery but we dont know how much time it would take. Previous statements of TMO and TRO show contradiction. Street residents alleged that the authorities were using delaying tactics just to support the illegal encroacher land mafia. Resident of Satellite Town demanded immediate action by the Chief Minister Punjab, otherwise they threatened to lodge protest against TMA in front of Prime Ministers House, Islamabad. Residents said Members of National Assembly and Provincial Assembly from the area were also requested but they turned deaf ears too. It is learnt that TMO is under political influence as he is playing delaying tactics in removing illegal encroachments.
