30,000 literacy centres annually

ISLAMABAD - A roadmap has been devised for the next five years to open 30,000 literacy centres annually, ensuring admissions for approximately 0.75 million students each year.
Ministry of Education and Trainings, in collaboration with National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) has also established more than 0.15 million literacy centres during the last ten years in which 3.2 million students were imparted literacy skills.  According to official sources on Sunday, National Plan of Action has already been launched in September this year in coordination with Provincial and Area Departments of Educations to achieve Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) targets and accelerate efforts towards achieving Universal Primary Education in shortest possible time.
Following a multi-stakeholder consultative process, the Ministry and Provincial Departments of Education also jointly organized eight workshops this year to develop Plans of Action. 
The consultative meetings were attended by Provincial Secretaries of Education, representatives of civil societies, UN agencies, and donors.
Provincial Sector Plans were employed as guiding documents for developing Plans of Action.
